Detox Unit returns with new EP ‘Schematic’
The four-track project marks the experimental bass producer’s first original EP since 2023’s ‘Liminal’
Detox Unit has announced his new EP, Schematic, set for release on August 21.
The four-track project is the first original EP from Joseph Roberts since 2023’s Liminal and signals what the producer describes as a new chapter in his approach to experimental bass music.
Developed over several years, Schematic takes its name from the idea of a blueprint that reduces a system to its essential components. That principle carries into the production, with Roberts stripping each track back to its core ideas rather than leaning into maximalism.
The EP opens with the atmospheric “Low Visibility”, followed by lead single “Detonator”. “Big Mood” brings a heavier, groove-driven approach before closing track “Equidistant” moves into more hypnotic territory.
The release continues Roberts’ focus on intricate sound design and soundsystem-focused production, while drawing from his longstanding interest in old-school DJ culture. His tracks are built with performance in mind, leaving space for them to be manipulated and reinterpreted within his sets rather than functioning as fixed pieces.
Alongside the four-track EP, Detox Unit will release a bonus remix of Ludacris’ “The Potion” exclusively through Bandcamp and SoundCloud. The sought-after edit will be made available as a thank-you to listeners who have supported the project over the years.
Schematic arrives during a busy touring period for Detox Unit. Earlier this year, he made surprise appearances at Electric Forest, including a Good Life Stage performance and his first B2B with Thought Process at Grand Artique.
Upcoming dates include Telluride Town Park on August 29, Secret Dreams Music & Arts Festival on September 4 and Nocturnal Valley Music & Arts Festival on September 25, before closing out the year at Eternal NYE in Orlando on December 30.
The new EP follows a catalogue that includes The Abyss (2016), Deviate (2019), Liminal (2023) and his ongoing Recent Works series.
