BROTHER DUO CALUSSA IN COLLABORATION WITH MOSKA AND LA GURÚ
HURRY UP SLOWLY LABEL RELEASES ‘ADIOS’
Hurry Up Slowly label heads Andrew and Gino Gomez, professionally known as the duo Calussa, team up with two of Colombia’s hottest artists, MOSKA and LA GURÚ, to release ‘Adios.’ Coming off their second Beatport #1 afro house track this year, this release marks the beginning of a new chapter for Calussa, as the brothers explore more euphoric and hypnotic percussive sounds.
Miami natives, Calussa grew up surrounded by a diverse variety of musical and cultural influences. This is reflected in the duo’s musical output, having released across a variety genres over the years.
In 2021, Andrew and Gino started releasing music under their Calussa moniker, to focus on music influenced by afro, latin, and melodic house, and teamed up with fellow Miami artist Malóne to launch their label, Hurry Up Slowly. Calussa’s talent scouting and curation skills are highlighted as label heads; Hurry Up Slowly has released thirteen tracks in 2022 which charted top ten on Beatport’s afro house chart.
‘Adios’ kicks off by showcasing its drum pattern; layers of complex percussion establish an infectious groove from the get go. As LA GURÚ’s beautiful vocals are introduced, the percussion is simplified - the rhythm takes a back seat as the hypnotic melody mesmerizes. She sings “No te quiero herir / no no no no…” which translates to “I don’t want to hurt you / no no no no.” Euphoria kicks in as joyous synth stabs are added to accompany LA GURÚ’s final verse. The track concludes with a drum pattern reminiscent of the introduction, only it is now accompanied by an optimistic melody, reflective of our transformed state.
Along with the original mix, the Adios EP includes an ‘After Hours Mix’. The enduring drums infuse this mix with energy, giving new life to the track. Although more effervescent than the original, this version of ‘Adios’ is just as vibrant.
Calussa are planning to premiere this record in their hometown at their upcoming 4-day festival for Miami Art Week from November 30th - December 3rd. The event features headliners BLOND:ISH, Camelphat, Gordo, the Martinez Brothers, and Calussa performing back-to-back with fellow label boss Malóne. After a landmark year in 2022, the brothers are heading into 2023 excited about their next musical chapter.
